FAQs : DND Housing Allocation
« back line

What determines the size of MQ that I am allocated?

The size of the unit that you are allocated is based on the number of family members as described in QR&O 28.06. DND residential housing units are allocated based on the number of bedrooms rather than the number of square feet.

I am single but have joint custody of my child. Why can I not be allocated a DND residential housing unit on the same basis as a CF Family?

Joint custody of children has no bearing on entitlement to DND residential housing. QR&O 28.06 defines a family member for the purpose of entitlement to housing units. To determine if a child is a family member, the child must be a dependant child who normally resides with the member AND the member must claim the child as a dependant on their Income Tax. The claiming of child support is not the same as claiming the child as a dependant.

Why must I inform the local CFHA office of any change in my dependant status?

QR&O 26.02 requires CF members to notify their Commanding Officer of changes in their family status. In addition, as initial and continued occupancy of a DND residential housing unit is subject to certain criteria, the Conditions of Occupancy require that members advise their local CFHA office of any change in family status that may affect their entitlement to occupy DND residential housing. Depending on the circumstances, a change in the number of dependants may impact the right of continued entitlement or size suitability.
