Our Vision

The Directorate of Professional Development will promote and facilitate the continuing transformation of military professional development as outlined in Officership and NCM Corps 2020 through the definition of the intellectual standards and the management of programmes and courses which satisfy the common learning requirements of Canada’s Armed Forces.

The Mission

The mission of the Directorate of Professional Development is to champion the CF professional development (PD) system with a fully supported, rigorous and relevant career-long learning system which includes the following:

  • Develop and maintain, in co-operation with Managing Authorities, the Qualification Standards for all assigned common professional development;

  • Deliver, in co-operation with Managing Authorities, common professional development in accordance with Canadian Forces General Specifications, the military ethos and other higher direction;

  • Validate common professional development programs;

  • The recognition of appropriate alternative learning and awarding of equivalent CF qualifications; and

  • The benchmarking of CF programmes and practices with those of contemporary military and civilian institutions.
