Vision

The Canadian Forces' learning and use of Official and Foreign Languages bear witness to the respect for Canada's linguistic duality and cultural diversity that is intrinsic to our Professional Development System.

Mission

Provide all CF members opportunities to acquire and maintain language proficiency by means of effective, efficient, and adaptable educational programs within the context of the CF Professional Development System.

The role of the Language Programs (LP) cell of the Canadian Defence Academy is

  • to provide effective and efficient opportunities for language learning to Canadian Forces through a combination of departmental and contracted resources;
  • to fully integrate Second Language Programs (SLP) into Officers' Professional Development (OPD) and Non-Commissioned Members' Professional Development (NCMPD);
  • to provide effective and efficient language learning opportunities to allies and partners; and
  • to ensure that the delivery of LP takes full advantage of current developments in language learning theory and practice.
