CDA Values
It is becoming increasingly common and important for organizations to express their core values. It is not that values were not important in the past but in today's complex down-sized world, people are often empowered to work within their area of expertise with much more autonomy. Accordingly, they must see the importance of their role in the accomplishment of the mission and the vision of the organization. They must also strive to exemplify the core values of the organization. CDA's values, based largely on the Canadian Forces Leader Framework, and their meaning are as follows:
Expertise
We value expertise as a measure of our ability to get the job done right. Our expertise is a reflection of our skills, our knowledge and our wisdom. We have confidence in our past experience but we embrace life-long learning as the means of gaining knowledge and enhancing our effectiveness to meet the challenges of the future. Individual and organizational wisdom enables us to make good judgements, to make sound decisions and to be confident in taking initiative.
Innovation
We value innovation as the product of our capacity to think, reason, analyze and improvise. We recognize that we live and work in a complex and ambiguous environment where creativity, imagination and ingenuity will be required to resolve difficult issues. A strategic perspective, a systems view and objectivity guide our thought processes.
Teamwork
We value teamwork as a measure of our commitment to the greater good of all. Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision; the ability to direct individual accomplishment toward organizational objectives. We acknowledge that a diverse team, bonded by a mutual respect for each other's capabilities, loyalty and a cooperative spirit, is a strong team. We value commitment to the CDA Team and to the Defence Team, above individual accomplishment.
Adaptability
We value adaptability as a measure of our flexibility and responsiveness to change. We recognize that change is inevitable; transformation is required. We embrace change as the means to a better future. Change is enabled through knowledge. Adaptability is about coaching, mentoring and the sharing of knowledge and experience to improve organizational capacity. And, sharing knowledge stimulates individual and organizational learning. This is the essence of forward-thinking, inventiveness and continuous improvement.
Professionalism
We value professionalism as a measure of our personal beliefs and integrity. We accept our responsibilities and will be accountable for them. We strive to maintain a level of professionalism such that our competence and judgement will be unquestioned. Our honesty and ethical standards are beyond reproach. We conduct ourselves with discipline and set a personal example for others by how we look and how we act. We have the courage to demand better from others.
Excellence
We value excellence as a measure of our standard of achievement. We are uncompromising and steadfast in our goal to achieve excellence because those we serve, the members of the Canadian Forces, deserve no less. Excellence always endures: it remains long after the cost is forgotten.
Engagement
We value engagement as a measure of our commitment to contribute to the success of the organization. Our resolve grows from our belief in the critical importance of professional development and our ability to make a difference within our area of expertise. We are proud of who we are and enthusiastic about what we do for the DND. We will take the lead when necessary and take the initiative without hesitation to ensure the successful accomplishment of the mission and vision.
