Biography - Rod Monette

Assistant Deputy Minister (Finance and Corporate Services)

Rod Monette

Mr. Monette joined the Government of Canada in 1981 as a Senior Policy Analyst with the Treasury Board Secretariat and Comptroller General of Canada. In 1985 he joined the former Indian Affairs and Northern Development Canada where he occupied the positions of Director, Financial Analysis and Program Review and of Director, Management Improvement.

In 1987 he assumed the position of Director General, Finance and Professional Services with Western Economic Diversification Canada.

In 1992 he was appointed as Assistant Deputy Minister, Western Economic Diversification and was based in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

In 1995 he was appointed Assistant Deputy Minister for the Prairie Region of Revenue Canada, also in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Then in 1997 he was appointed as Assistant Deputy Minister, Corporate Services at Environment Canada in Ottawa.

In 2000 he held the position of Assistant Comptroller General and Assistant Secretary, Financial Management Policy and Analysis Sector in Treasury Board Secretariat.

He first joined Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) in 2001 as Assistant Deputy Minister of Government Operational Service, where he was responsible for Paymaster General, the Receiver General for Canada, Finance, and Policy and Planning functions. In 2002, Mr. Monette was appointed Assistant Deputy Minister of Operations at PWGSC where he was responsible for the provision of procurement, real property and IM/IT services to government departments and agencies.

In September 2003 Mr. Monette was Appointed Assistant Deputy Minister (Finance and Corporate Services) for the Department of National Defence.

Mr. Monette, a Chartered Accountant, was born in Regina Saskatchewan and holds a B.Sc. from Carleton University as well as a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Ottawa. He is married and has two children. His hobbies include motorcycling and playing music.
