PAA - Program Activity Architecture

Effective April 1, 2005, Treasury Board instituted the 'Management, Resources and Results Structure' (MRRS) policy, which requires departments to define how they plan and manage diverse programs and related activities, allocate resources and achieve and report on results. DND/CF has established three elements to support the MRRS; a Program Activity Architecture (PAA); clearly defined and measurable Strategic Outcomes; and a description of the current Governance Structure.

The PAA in particular consists of three programs:

  1. generate and Sustain relevant, responsive and effective combat capable, integrated forces;
  2. conduct operations;
  3. contribute to Canadian government, society and international community in accordance with Canadian interests and values.

Each program profiles three levels of activity (activity, sub-activity and sub-sub activity). These activities are causally linked to produce a predominant output for the program. Each program output contributes to/leads to a Strategic Outcome. For more MRRS or PAA details: vcds.mil.ca/dgsp/pubs/rep-pub/ddm/paa/intro_e.asp
