is awarded the Commendation for Ethics of the Ombudsman for National Defence and the Canadian Forces.

Since joining the Naval Reserve as a chaplain, Lt(N) Swayze has gone above and beyond the call of duty to foster openness, honesty and integrity in the working environment. He lives his life by these beliefs and actively fosters them in others.

Morally courageous, Lt(N) Swayze’s willingness to undertake difficult situations demonstrates his genuine concern for others. He is acutely aware of the effects of stress on personnel, and he preemptively advises supervisors to be conscientious of the workload and tempo of operations. He adeptly makes recommendations to superiors when conflict may exist between policy and personal beliefs or emotional strain.

He is an invaluable counselor to all members of his community, using his exceptional listening skills and moral leadership to help many deal positively and constructively with difficult situations. It can truly be said of Lt(N) Swayze that he wholeheartedly encompasses the values and ethics of the DND/CF.
