Continuing education is important in order for one to progress and remain competitive in the job market. According to the Federal Labour Department Analysts, the demand for higher education in the workplace is increasing steadily, with fewer and fewer jobs going to those who do not possess a high school diploma.

Under current policies, there are several programs available for members of the CF who wish to pursue further education. Eligible members, including reservists, may claim reimbursement of education, training, and professional certification expenses, in whole or in part, under a series of Education Reimbursement (ER) programs. If your education, training, or certification is in the interest of the CF or, in some cases, leads directly to second career employment, it is possible to claim reimbursement both while serving and after release. In all cases, the expenses must also be in accordance with an approved Individual Learning Plan (ILP).

Questions?

If you have any questions about the information on this page, please refer to the Education Reimbursement Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) Page.

Programmes

To find out which Education Reimbursement programme applies to you, we strongly advise you to visit our Reimbursement Questionnaire. There are five programmes available to current CF members:

The Reimbursement Questionnaire will help you decide which of them is best suited to you.

Individual Learning Plan

Before applying for Education Reimbursement, you must have an approved Individual Learning Plan (ILP). An ILP helps CF members identify their learning goals and their proposed educational, training and certification activities. You can complete an ILP form online from this website, using our electronic form.

Develop Your Personal Learning Strategy

Because of the time it takes to complete coursework and the time limits imposed for reimbursement, it is important that you define your need and set appropriate goals early on and throughout your career, well in advance of release. Use this tool for guidance and references that will help you in defining your personal learning goals and identifying the educational programs and institutions that are right for you. [Click Here]
