Grant E. “Ted” Mahood, National President of the Air Force Association of Canada (AFAC), lays a wreath at the cenotaph in Westboro, Ottawa during a memorial ceremony on Sunday, October 15, 2006. AFAC delegates, serving Canadian Forces members, Air Cadets and local politicians attended the parade and memorial ceremony, which was part of AFAC’s 57th annual general meeting held during the weekend of October 13 to 15.
The Royal Canadian Air Force Association was formed in 1948 as a national advocacy group to support the Royal Canadian Air Force and to unite Air Force veterans of the Second World War. The Association changed its name to the Air Force Association of Canada on July 1, 1994. The Association is a national not-for-profit aerospace and community service organization composed of aviation-minded citizens established to remind Canadians of their country’s rich aeronautical tradition and history, to support Canada’s Air Force and to support and encourage the civil aviation component within the country.
The annual general meeting is a blend of social and professional events aimed at strengthening the ties between past and present serving Air Force members and creating a deeper understanding and awareness of Air Force issues today.
