Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, presented six Military Valour Decorations to members of the Canadian Forces who have displayed gallantry and devotion to duty in combat. Created in 1993, this marks the first time that these decorations were presented. Sergeant Patrick Tower, S.M.V., C.D.,is seen here receiving his medal. During the same ceremony, the Governor General presented 33 Meritorious Service Decorations (Military Division) to individuals whose specific achievements have brought honour to the Canadian Forces and to Canada.
