Return to Two Way Exchanges

The YMCA offers youth opportunities to form strong links between their own communities and communities elsewhere in Canada. The YMCA Youth Exchanges Canada program encourages exchanges that promote understanding and appreciation of the diversity of Canada. The following are given priority:
- Exchanges involving economically-disadvantaged youth
- Aboriginal exchanges
- Rural or isolated community exchanges
- Exchanges including youth with disabilities
The YMCA gives special consideration to proposals in which more than 30 per cent of participants are youth in the priority groups highlighted above. The Government of Canada through the YMCA Youth Exchanges Canada Program covers travel costs for all participants.
By participating in an exchange, our young people experience how they and their group fit within the Canadian context. They learn from each other, grow to respect different cultures, and develop communication and leadership skills. Participants form a greater sense of Canadian identity. |
