![Welcome to CBC-ESL (English as a Second Language)](/web/20061029163421im_/http://www.cbc.ca/ottawa/esl/images/title_welcome.gif)
These web pages are designed to help you learn to speak and
read English.
We hope the lessons, and video and audio clips, will challenge,
entertain and educate you.
CBC Ottawa and CBC Archives developed this special section
with the Applied Linguistics Department at Carleton University.
The project is supported by other Ottawa groups, including:
English Language Tutoring for the Ottawa Community - ELTOC,
Ottawa Community Immigrant Services Organization - OCISO,
Ottawa Public Library, the Ottawa Carleton District School
Board and
the Ottawa Carleton Catholic School Board.
The goal is to help new Canadians enhance what they know
about our country, from the making of maple syrup to the history
of the nation at war. New Canadians will build their English
skills by watching and listening to interesting stories from
the archives of CBC Television and CBC Radio. The Radio and
TV stories have lesson plans with study exercises to help
students learn English.
It is a great pleasure to bring this pilot project to Canadians.
