Urban Multipurpose Aboriginal Youth Centre

Objective

To create a network of urban, multipurpose, Aboriginal youth programming. Programming provides accessible, Aboriginal community-based, culturally relevant and supportive projects, programs, services and counselling to urban Aboriginal youth, and will facilitate their participation in existing programs in order to improve their economic, social and personal prospects.

Who can apply?

• The National Association of Friendship Centres, the Métis National Council and its provincial affiliates, and the Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami and its regional affiliates deliver the UMAYC initiative to eligible recipients, and apply for funding directly to the Department of Canadian Heritage.
  
  
• Eligible recipients include, but are not limited to: local friendship centres, Aboriginal representative, service delivery and voluntary organizations, Aboriginal academic institutions, Aboriginal cultural, educational and recreational organizations/centres, Aboriginal youth and women's organizations, or coalitions of such Aboriginal organizations.
  
  
• Funding for the UMAYC Initiative is to be administered by the Department of Canadian Heritage in Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Regina, Prince Albert, Edmonton and Calgary. An eligible recipient should call the appropriate organization(s) listed below to determine where to send its application.

What is the deadline?

The National Association of Friendship Centres, the Métis National Council and its provincial affiliates, and the Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami and its affiliates are to present their proposals to the Department of Canadian Heritage by March 1. Eligible recipients should call the appropriate organization(s) listed below to determine its/their requirements in terms of the deadline(s) for receipt of proposals.
