Visitor Information

Welcome

Battle of the Windmill National Historic Site of Canada

Welcome to Battle of the Windmill National Historic Site of Canada website. The historic site is located 3 kms east of Fort Wellington, Prescott, Ontario, along the St. Lawrence River. During a four-day period In November 1838 British troops and the local militia defeated an invasion force of 250 American "Hunters" and Canadian rebels. The Battle of the Windmill victory prevented the invasion force from capturing Fort Wellington, Ontario and cutting the St. Lawrence communications link, which would have left Upper Canada open to invasion.

The website will give you an overview of the history of the site and the services that are offered at this National Historic Site.

The site is operated by The Friends of Windmill Point, a Cooperate Association with Parks Canada.
