Aboriginal Roundtable

The principal aim of the Aboriginal roundtable was to seek Aboriginal sport community input into the identification of 1) gaps and weaknesses in the sport structure at the national, regional and local levels and 2) possible remedies and recommendations within the realities of fiscal constraints. To get this important input from Aboriginal peoples towards the development of the Canadian Sport Policy, it was agreed that a roundtable would be held on September 23rd, 2000 with the Board of Directors of the Aboriginal Sport Circle (ASC), the national body representing the interest of Aboriginal peoples in sport.

Athletes CAN Rountable

The Athlete roundtable was held on Sunday, November 19 and Monday, November 20, 2000 in Calgary, Alberta. The objectives of the Athlete roundtable were 1) to provide athletes with an opportunity to come together to discuss the issues and make an organized and significant contribution to the National Sport Policy; and 2) to generate specific recommendations for the new National Sport Policy. The Athlete roundtable was organized in cooperation with Athletes CAN.

Roundtable on Equity and Inclusion

A roundtable on equity and inclusion in Canadian amateur sport was held in Ottawa on March 21st, 2001. The principal aim of this roundtable was to obtain concrete suggestions on how to achieve equity and inclusion for visible minorities and Aboriginal peoples in the Canadian sport system.

NSO/MSO Roundtable

The roundtable with National Sport Organizations (NSOs) and Multi Sport Organizations (MSOs) was held February 16-17, 2001 in Montréal, Québec. The roundtable included more than one hundred participants.

The principal aim of the roundtable with NSOs and MSOs was to obtain input from the national sport community regarding the development of a Canadian Policy on Sport. Participants in each workshop also discussed how to improve relationships between Canadian Heritage and the NSO/MSOs.

Officials Roundtable

A roundtable with sport officials, e.g., referees and judges, was held in Calgary, Alberta on November 18, 2000. There is no national organization representing officials across sport in Canada.

The principal aim of the Officials roundtable was to seek the input of Canada's sport officials, into the identification of 1) gaps and weaknesses in the sport structure at the national, regional and local levels and 2) possible remedies and recommendations within the realities of fiscal constraints.

Media Roundtable

The event was scheduled in Toronto on March 29 and 30, 2001. The round table discussion with representatives of the media responded to a recommendation that arose out of the regional consultations attended by leaders of the amateur sport community in Canada.

At this round table, representatives of the media had the opportunity to discuss themes such as Ethics and values in sport and Sport promotion. Emphasis what put on how the sport community could work more efficiently with the media to ensure a better promotion of Amateur Sport in Canada. Approximately thirty participants from different regions attended the round table.
