Users and their Use of HEIRs |
HEIRNET is pleased to announce the publication of 'Users and their Uses of HEIRs' a report by the Cultural Heritage Consortium. This interesting and informative report was commissioned by HEIRNET to provide an initial evaluation of the uses of historic environment information resources. In recent years many who are involved in managing HEIRs have identified a requirement to develop understanding of users and their needs. This has prompted the collection of quantitative and qualitative data about the uses of individual HEIRs - through web-site user logs, via on-line and off-line questionnaire surveys, through focus groups and direct discussion with users. A number of important national initiatives have also been explored the users of museums, archives and public oppinion about the historic environment in general. In 'Users and their Uses of HEIRs', the Cultural Heritage Consortium provides a review of based on existing research which identifies common messages, key trends and issues that are of importance to HEIRs. The report identifies examples of current good practices in the collection of user statistics and goes on to make recommendations for developing the sector's understanding of users, and non-users, in future. |
