Hours of operation

The national historic sites are open from June 1st to October 15th. Docking facilities are available on the island during this time. Guided tours of the island are available in July and August.

How to get there

To get to Boishébert National Historic Site of Canada, follow route 8 to Bi-Centennial Park and Wilsons Point. To get to Beaubears Island Shipbuilding National Historic Site of Canada, J. Leonard O'Brien Memorial, turn off Route 126 Hwy in the former village of Nelson. Visit the Interpretive Center administered by the Friends of Beaubears Island Inc. at 35, St. Patrick's Drive, located directly across from the island.

Interpretation Center
Visit the Interpretation Center opened daily during the summer months administered by the Friends of Beaubears Island Inc. View life on Beaubears Island and the Miramichi during the time of the Deportation of the Acadians, the British invasion and the shipbuilding era.

Interpretive Island Tours
Interpretive island tours and boat charter services are available July and August at Ritchie Wharf in the City of Miramichi and from the Friends of Beaubears Island Inc. Interpretation Center. Access for Persons with Special Needs

Access for persons with special needs is limited at Boishébert and Beaubears Island Shipbuilding National Historic Sites of Canada. The Province of New Brunswick administers Wilsons Point and some visitor facilities are currently being developed in cooperation with non-profit groups. Access to Beaubears Island is by private boat charter. Prior to visiting, it is recommended that visitors contact the charter operator of the Friends of Beaubears Island Inc. - (506) 622-8526. Environment Canada provides current weather conditions and forecast for Miramichi and New Brunswick located in close proximity to the historic site.
