Text Size Problems

  1. How do I make the text on your Web site bigger?
  2. Why is the text on your site so small?
  3. Why do you use proportional font sizing?

  1. How do I make the text on your Web site bigger?

You can increase the text size on our Web pages by changing the settings in your Web browser. Just follow the instructions below, based on the browser you are using: Internet Explorer (5.0+), Mozilla Firefox (1.0+), Netscape (6.0+), or Netscape (4.x)

    Internet Explorer (5.0+)
To increase the type size in Internet Explorer:

    1. Select View in the menu bar.
    2. Select Text Size (PC Version) or Text Zoom (Mac Version).
    3. Select a text size.

    Mozilla Firefox (1.0+)
To increase the type size in Mozilla Firefox:

    1. Select View in the menu bar.
    2. Select Text Size.
    3. Select Increase.
    4. Notice that the text size has increased.
    5. To increase the type further, continue selecting Increase.

    Netscape (6.0+)
To increase the type size in Netscape (6.0+):

    1. Select View in the menu bar.
    2. Select Text Zoom.
    3. Select a text size.

    Netscape (4.x)
To increase the type size in Netscape (4.x):

    1. Select View in the menu bar.
    2. Select Increase Font.
    3. Notice that the text size has increased.
    4. To increase the type further, continue selecting Increase Font.
  2. Why is the text on your Web site so small?

Parks Canada uses a style sheet that does not prescribe the exact text size. This means that you should be able to increase or decrease the font size to suit your needs. The default text size for Internet browsers is medium. If the font appears small, it means that your text/font setting is not at the browser default setting. To change the font size, read how to make the text size bigger.

  3. Why does Parks Canada use proportional font sizing?

Parks Canada uses proportional font sizing to ensure that all Canadians will be able to access the information according to their needs. The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), which creates the Internet coding standards for the Internet, recommends the use of proportional font sizing as the best way of achieving universal accessibility. The W3C promotes proportional font sizing as a way to put text size control back in the hands of the Web site visitor.
