Careful recording of all aspects of a digital collection and the circumstances surrounding its creation can make the difference between a resource which has limited value beyond the context in which it was originally created, and one whose value extends far beyond this context and may be used extensively by the academic community in perpetuity. This paper will discuss different forms of documentation, from unstructured information to resource discovery and preservation metadata. The paper should enable anyone embarking on a digitisation project to make informed choices about how to successfully document their digital resources."
