Department: Recreation and Culture Department

Salary Range / Pay Grade: $42,729 – $52,121
Pay Grade: 8

Reporting to the Museum Supervisor, the Curator of Collections is responsible for exhibition development as well as registration and collections management, conservation, collections development, and research related to the Museum’s collection. The incumbent also participates in museum administration, policy development and budgeting as assigned. This position has limited supervision duties.

Job Responsibilities:
• Administration
• Participates in the formulation of procedures, standards, budgets, policies, and long-term plans.
• Supports the Museum Supervisor in the day-to-day operation of the Museum
• Provides a senior staff presence in the absence of the Museum Supervisor
• Exhibition development
• Responsible for all aspects of exhibition development including planning, design, interpretive text including publications, budgets, staffing, set-up and strike, loans, insurance and records.
• Collections Management and Conservation
• Must be able to demonstrate theoretical and practical knowledge of collections management, conservation standards and preservation approaches.
• Responsible for all aspects of database management.
• Determines and implements methods for preservation and conservation of items which may include art, artifacts, and/or documentary records.
• Works with staff as needed on condition reports for incoming and outgoing loans.
• Performs or works with appropriate specialists to undertake preventative conservation measures such as monitoring conditions and pest management.
• Conducts and supervises research involving the analysis of artists' materials; storage, treatment, display, and shipment of works of art; and environmental conditions.
• Provides instruction to a wide variety of people including interns, museum practices students, volunteers, and student employees on conservation and preservation procedures and practices.
• Supervises conservation interns, as appropriate to the requirements of the department.
• Collaborates with staff to develop appropriate housings and exhibit mounts.
• Oversees conservation, including objects treated by private/institutional conservators.
• Researches and writes conservation grant proposals.

Qualifications/Skills:
• Master’s degree in Museum Studies, Art, History or equivalent
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in the field.
• Strong organizational, communications and visual skills.
• Must work well with others.
• Equivalent education and experience may be considered.
