The Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO), one of North America's finest art museums, is undergoing a Frank Gehry-designed expansion. When completed mid-2008, the AGO will increase its viewing space by 47 per cent and augment its collection by 10,000 new works. Studio Instructor
Up to 8 Temporary Part-Time Positions

We are looking for practicing professional Artists to conduct art courses, demonstrate and discuss techniques and materials particular to the course medium and audience.

This position will instruct students on the theoretical, technical and creative studio practices of the assigned course through a number of methods including discourse, demonstrations and reference to the permanent collection, exhibitions and Instructor’s studio work. Studio Instructors will also develop and submit for approval a comprehensive course outline for the respective program.

Successful candidates must possess comprehensive knowledge and experience of the appropriate medium for the course as well as the relevant conceptual background, techniques, materials and practices for instructing in those media. Ideal candidates will also have comprehensive knowledge and experience of teaching methodologies, techniques and practices, relevant to the audience (adult, youth and/or children) as required by the course. Incumbents must have post-secondary studies in art-education and studio art combined with excellent public relations, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Proven ability to teach as related to the level of programming for the students as well as the ability to work well as part of an instructional team is essential. Knowledge of art history and the AGO collection is required. Studio Instructors may present their own works as a way to demonstrate techniques therefore incumbents must have public exhibition or publication of their work in the previous two years.

Studio Instructors are needed for the following courses which require the respective artistic specialization and availability:
- Introduction to Chinese Brush Painting (Up to 2)
Up to two accomplished, Chinese Brush painters are needed to teach an introductory course in this subject area to an adult audience. Candidates must be available on Tuesdays from 10 am to 1pm and/or Thursdays from 7 pm to 10 pm up to March 8th, 2007.
- You Frame IT (1)
The successful incumbent must possess professional framing experience to teach the basics of picture framing to an adult audience on Wednesdays from 7 pm to 10 pm up to March 8th, 2007
- Open Studio (1)
The ideal candidate will provide pointers and offer technical advice to adults regarding their artistic projects. The incumbent will possess experience teaching adults in a wide range of artistic media including but not limited to drawing, sculpture, painting, printmaking, graphic art and mixed media. The incumbent must be available Mondays from 7 pm to 10 pm up to March 19th, 2007.
- Children’s Studio (Up to 4)
Up to four Studio Instructors are required to teach a variety of artistic media to children on Saturdays and/or Sundays from 10 am to Noon up to March 11, 2007. The successful incumbents will have experience teaching children in a wide range of artistic media including but not limited to drawing, sculpture, painting, printmaking, graphic art and mixed media.
