Launched in March 2001, the VMC has gained much national and international attention. From home and abroad, people interested in Canada’s art, culture and history have registered more than 161 million page views and 34 million visits to the VMC’s virtual exhibits, images, games and other attractions.

2. Who provides content to the Virtual Museum of Canada?
In collaboration with more than 1000 museums, other government agencies, educational institutions and the private sector, the VMC is able to provide each visitor with a unique and fulfilling visit. The various sections available at the VMC (Virtual Exhibits, Image Gallery, Fun and Games, Teachers’ Centre, Museums and Events, Community Memories, @Boutiques, Send a Postcard) bring Canada’s diverse heritage into homes, schools, and places of work.

3. If the Virtual Museum of Canada is a Canadian Government funded program, why does the URL have a .ca and not a .gc.ca?
The Canadian Heritage Information Network, an agency of the Department of Canadian Heritage, created the VMC gateway. The more than 1300 member museums are responsible for providing content to the Virtual Museum of Canada.

4. Can I use the images found in the Image Gallery for my own personal use?
All of the images found within the VMC have been provided by museums. Therefore, the contributing museum owns the copyrights. Individuals are not permitted to use the images for their own use.
