Anti-Doping Requires a Concerted Effort

MONTREAL, February 23, 2001 -- Secretary of State (Amateur Sport) Denis Coderre today attended the launch of a conference on.Doping in Sports Among Youths in Canada, which will be held February 23-25, 2001, in Montreal. The World Forum on Physical Activity and Sport is organizing the conference in collaboration with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

"As stakeholders in the area of sports, it is our duty to protect the values and integrity of sport and the only way to do that is to adopt a strategy in which the fight against doping in sport is waged on all fronts," said Mr. Coderre.

Mr. Coderre also reminded those present that Canada is a leader in the area of anti-doping. Montreal is one of six cities being considered for the location of the permanent headquarters of the World Anti-doping Agency. The Founding Committee will render its decision in July 2001.
