The Role of Fort St. Joseph in the War of 1812
This program supports the Ontario Ministry curriculum for Grade 7 History: British North America. Students will learn about the causes, events, personalities and consequences of the war of 1812 and the significant role played by the Aboriginal allies at Fort St. Joseph. Teachers can make a reservation for a site visit and receive a pre-visit package that includes site brochures, maps, copies of original documents and suggested classroom activities.
A site visit includes a presentation in the theatre including the video The Undefended Border. Students will have the opportunity to try on a military uniform and learn about the daily life of a soldier. Classes will explore the exhibits in the Visitor Centre and the archaeological foundations on the hill.
