New Video at Fort St. Joseph
ST. JOSEPH ISLAND, ONTARIO, May 20, 2006 – Fort St. Joseph National Historic Site of Canada is pleased to announce that a new bilingual orientation video for visitors has been produced and will soon be available for viewing at the historic site.
The completed “mini-movie” will provide an entertaining and informative way to help visitors understand the historic significance of the site. Emphasis is placed on the extent of the ties that existed between the British and the Aboriginal People of the region, in both a military and commercial sense.
The video, which was produced locally and benefited from the talents of several local actors and volunteers, began production in 2005 with documentation of an archaeological dig at the site. Production resumed briefly on a cold February day when actors braved the weather and deep snow to portray two military deserters. The final scenes were shot in the summer kitchen of the Ermatinger /Clergue National Historic Site, providing an authentic setting for John and Madeline Askin, who lived at the Fort from 1807 to 1812.
The date of the premier screening of the video is May 25th, when a gala opening will be held in conjunction with a volunteer appreciation event. Fort St. Joseph National Historic Site is open every day from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm, from June 1st until Thanksgiving.
