Teachers' Corner
The Golden Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II provides us
with a tremendous opportunity to help Canadians of all ages, particularly young
Canadians, learn about our government and its origins, symbols and
institutions. The purpose of this web page is to provide a wide assortment of
user-friendly resources exploring our unique country.
Canadians and Their Government: A Resource Guide
The Department of Canadian Heritage is developing a resource guide
to coincide with The Queen's Golden Jubilee and the
50th Anniversary of Canadian Governors General. It
will equip Canadians with a wide assortment of easy-to-use learning activities
and background information exploring the unique approach that Canadians take to
governing our country.
The guide will be available in both official languages and its
contents will fall under four broad areas: the evolution of Canada's system of
government; an exploration of the roles and responsibilities of government and
institutions; the Canadian Crown; and other relevant information.
This resource guide is intended primarily for youth aged 12 to
16. It can as well be used with younger or older audiences with minimal
adjustment.
The guide will be available at the end of the fall, for use in a
variety of learning environments throughout the Jubilee year and for years to
come.
Once launched, please feel free to reproduce any part of this
guide for learning purposes. You may also want to change some of the handouts
to suit your region. The easiest way to do that is to copy the relevant page
from the guide into your favourite word processing program and update it from
there.
Sign up so that
you will receive a FREE guide when available. Tell us your mailing address and
e-mail and we will confirm its delivery date as soon as possible.
