How to Get There

Dawson City and the Klondike Gold Fields are 541 km north-west of Whitehorse, Yukon.

By road from:

British Columbia: travel the Alaska Highway north-west from Dawson Creek (mile 0). Just north of Whitehorse take the Klondike Highway to Dawson City. Or travel the Stewart Cassiar Highway linked to Prince George and to Prince Rupert. Prince Rupert is a port of call for the Alaska Marine Highway Ferry System and the B.C. Ferry System.

Skagway, Alaska: travel north on the Klondike Highway to Whitehorse. Before departing check customs hours at Fraser, B.C. For U.S. customs, call (907) 983-2325. Travel the Alaska Highway for a short stint before reconnecting with the Klondike Highway just north of Whitehorse. Smooth sailing to Dawson from here. (Skagway is a regular port of call for the Alaska Marine Highway System and many cruise ships).

Tok, Alaska: travel northeast on the Taylor/ Top of the World Hwy. Check Little Gold border crossing hours at the main street Info Centre in Tok, open May through Sept. Turn off the Alaska Hwy at the Tetlin junction. The junction to the border is a packed gravel surface with chip sealed sections. The Alaska/Yukon border to Dawson City is a hard surface (chip sealed).

By air from:

Vancouver, B.C.: travel with Canadian Airlines, 1-800-665-1177 or Air North, 1-800-661-0407 to Whitehorse. Direct flights take just over two hours. Transfer to Air North (867) 668-2228, or private charter from Whitehorse to Dawson City. Flights are approximately 1hr.

Calgary and/or Edmonton, Alberta: travel with Air North, 1-800-661-0407. Direct flights take just over two hours. Transfer to Air North (867) 668-2228, or private charter from Whitehorse to Dawson City. Flights are approximately 1hr.

Fairbanks, Alaska: fly with Air North (867) 668-2228.

Anchorage, Alaska: fly to Fairbanks with Alaska Airlines 1-800-426-0333 and make connections with Air North (867) 668-2228 to Dawson. Or fly with Era Aviation (907) 266-8394 to Whitehorse and connect with Air North (867) 668-2228 to Dawson City.

Frankfurt, Germany: fly Condor Air to Whitehorse and connect with Air North to Dawson City.
