Recognizing our History
The National Historic Sites, People and Events recognized by the Government of Canada teach us much about who we were and who we are as a people. Our history guides and inspires our future. That is why Parks Canada wants to ensure that the national commemorative program represents the diversity of Canada and fully reflects our evolving history. It has identified ethnocultural communities' history as one of three priorities for further representation.

Currently about 75 sites, persons and events of national historic significance illustrate Canada's cultural diversity. This represents about 4.2% of the total of 1769 commemorations. The ethnocultural communities' history initiative aims to improve that representation by encouraging participation in the commemorative process and by supporting related presentation and conservation initiatives.

Through the brochure featured in this website you will learn more about the system of National Historic Sites of Canada and how to participate in the commemorative process. We invite you to contact us with your ideas.
