The World Conference against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and
Related Intolerance was held in Durban, South Africa, August 31 to September
7, 2001.
The Durban Declaration and Programme of Action and other related documents
can be found on the website of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, at

In August 1999, in preparation for the World Conference, the Office of the
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights circulated a questionnaire to UN Member
States, specialized agencies, international governmental organizations and non-governmental
organizations, and national institutions with a view to reviewing progress achieved
in the fight against racism and reappraising obstacles to further progress.
Canada submitted its response to this questionnaire to the UN in October 1999.
This report contains information gathered from various departments of the Government
of Canada as well as from a number of provinces and territories.
