BiographyCaptain Andrew Mackay - SB8 (Lead Solo)November 10, 2005 Captain Andrew Mackay, 40, from Orleans, Ontario, is in his fifth year with the Snowbirds. He flies the No. 8 jet as the Lead Solo. He flew the No. 6 aircraft in the Outer Right Wing position for two years before changing to the No. 8 aircraft for the 2004 show season. Capt. Mackay joined the Canadian Forces in 1987 and, upon receiving his wings, was posted to Cold Lake, Alberta, as a rescue pilot on the Single Huey helicopter. In 1993, Capt. Mackay was posted to 423 Maritime Helicopter Squadron in Shearwater, Nova Scotia, to fly the Sea King helicopter. Four years later, in 1997, he was posted to 2 Canadian Forces Flying Training School (2 CFFTS) in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, as a flying instructor, where he attained an A2 instructional rating. Capt. Mackay brings over 5,100 hours of military flying experience to the Canadian Forces Snowbirds. |
