The next games in Canada: the North American Indigenous Games July 25 to August 4, 2002.

The Government of Canada is very honoured to support the North American Indigenous Games and is proud they are being hosted in Canada.

Aboriginal youth will soon be able to fully participate in all aspects of Canadian society, including sport and cultural activities. In total, a team of 6,500 Aboriginal athletes will participate at sport events and 3,000 artists will showcase their talents in the cultural component of the Games.

The Games are held every three years and are hosted alternately by the United States. They feature the United States and Canada in 16 sport disciplines and include a major cultural component. The 2002 North American Indigenous Games will allow Aboriginal youth to interact personally and through sport. The Games provide a forum for the sharing of culture and an opportunity for young people to set objectives for their mental, physical, spiritual and cultural development.
