- 5/18/2007 - Navy’s New Training Vessel At Victoria Harbour Opening
The new Navy training vessel Orca will makes its public debut at the 33rd Annual Opening Day Sailpast in Victoria’s Inner Harbour at 1 p.m. on Saturday, an event that marks the beginning of the recreational boating season. Capt.(Navy) Peter Ellis, Deputy Commander of the Canadian Pacific Fleet, will be joined aboard Orca by representatives of the City of Victoria, Victoria Harbour Authority, the Harbour Master and the Sailpast Committee to take the salute from the more than 50 decorated boats expected to be involved in the sailpast. The event heralds a week of activity in the Victoria Inner Harbour including the arrival of 200 participants for the 64th Swiftsure International Yacht Race on May 26.
- 5/7/2007 - Navy’s Vintage Sailing Ship Open For Tours In Downtown Vancouver
HMCS Oriole, the Canadian Navy’s only commissioned sailing ship, starts a week-long visit to Vancouver today at the Harbour Green Dock in Coal Harbour (located at Harbour Green Park, 1199 West Cordova Street - in front of The Mill Marine Bistro).
- 5/3/2007 - HMCS Winnipeg Crew Donate Thousands To Local Charities
The Commanding Officer of HMCS Winnipeg, Cmdr. Dermot Mulholland, and 29 members of the ship’s company will make their annual namesake visit to the City of Winnipeg May 3 to 10. The sailors will spend a busy week within the community visiting various charities, community organizations, and schools.
- 5/1/2007 - Exercise Trident Fury 2007 To Run May 7-18
Maritime Forces Pacific (MARPAC) will host Exercise Trident Fury from May 7th to 18th, attracting over 2,000 participants and more than $1 million in expected economic benefits for the community. Exercise Trident Fury will involve ships, aircraft, and a limited number of ground units participating in a full spectrum of warfare training with emphasis on air defence and anti-submarine warfare events. It will also include a variety of live surface and air weapons firings.
- 5/1/2007 - Epic Battle Of The Atlantic Commemorated On Sunday
While the First World War battle for Vimy Ridge gave the Canadian Army international renown, it was the Battle for the North Atlantic in the Second World War Two that won international recognition for Canadian sailors.
