The Government of Canada is Proud to Support the Visages de Montréal -- Éloge de la Diversité Photography Exhibition

MONTRÉAL, June 14, 2000 -- Secretary of State (Multiculturalism)(Status of Women) Hedy Fry today announced financial support of $5,400 to the Comité aviseur sur les relations interculturelles de Montréal (CARIM) for the Visages de Montréal - Éloge de la diversité photography exhibition. This exhibition will take place from July 15 to 23, in the Montréal City Hall.

"This photography exhibition, which offers a candid look at the day-to-day lives of ethnocultural groups, highlights Montréal's cosmopolitan nature and underscores the groups' differences and similarities. It will make possible the establishment and maintenance of fraternal ties between Montrealers, thus fostering respect for fraternity in our society," Dr. Fry noted.

The Comité aviseur sur les relations interculturelles de Montréal promotes the integration and participation of members of the ethnic communities in political, economic, social and cultural life.

This financial support will enable CARIM to present an exhibition of 60 photographs on the theme of cultural diversity. The event celebrates the organization's 10th anniversary and will emphasize the deep roots of the ethnocultural communities and their contribution to the development of our society.

The Multiculturalism Program has made the financial support to the Comité aviseur sur les relations interculturelles de Montréal. Funding for this project was provided for in the February 2000 budget and is therefore built into the existing fiscal framework.
