Government of Canada Announces Funding for the Committee for Career Advancement of Aboriginal Women

BEAVER DAM, February 3, 2003 -- Claudette Bradshaw, Minister of Labour and Member of Parliament (Moncton-Riverview-Dieppe), on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, today announced funding of $26,000 for the Committee for Career Advancement of Aboriginal Women.

"The Government of Canada is committed to the full participation of all citizens, regardless of language, sex, or race," said Minister Bradshaw. "We are proud to support a project that helps Aboriginal women of New Brunswick increase their leadership skills and participate in the development of their communities."

This funding will allow the Committee for Career Advancement of Aboriginal Women to organize a two-day conference for Aboriginal women in New Brunswick. The conference will provide a forum for participants to come together, network, and learn new skills. The objectives of the conference are to enhance the leadership capabilities and increase the capacity of Aboriginal women to play a stronger role in improving their communities.

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through its Aboriginal Women Program. This program is intended to increase the participation of Aboriginal women in all areas and improve their socio-economic and political status in Canadian society.

Funding for this project was provided for in the December 2001 federal budget and is therefore built into the existing fiscal framework.
