Government of Canada Announces Funding for the affiliation of Multicultural Societies and Service Agencies of British Columbia

VANCOUVER, March 19, 2003 -- Herb Dhaliwal, Minister of Natural Resources and Member of Parliament (VancouverÑSouth-Burnaby), on behalf of Secretary of State (Multiculturalism) (Status of Women) Jean Augustine, today announced funding of $10,595 for the Affiliation of Multicultural Societies and Service Agencies of British Columbia (AMSSA).

"The Government of Canada ensures equality for all Canadians by providing funding to organizations dedicated to advancing the objectives of Canada's Multiculturalism Policy," said Secretary of State Augustine.

"I am pleased that the Multiculturalism Program supports this valuable community initiative," said Mr. Dhaliwal. "The Splash and Ripple management tool will help engage multicultural organizations in British Columbia and encourage Canadians to find strategies to stop racism and fight discrimination."

With this funding, AMSSA will organize a one-day workshop on the Splash and Ripple Outcomes Measurement Tool for participating members of the Collaborative Committee on Multiculturalism. This broad-based community partnership will help multicultural agencies in British Columbia deliver multicultural and anti-racism initiatives, by building organizational capacity.

Canada's Multiculturalism Policy promotes full and equitable participation in Canadian society of people of all origins, as well as interaction between individuals and communities of different origins. It also encourages public institutions to be respectful and inclusive of Canada's multicultural character.

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through its Multiculturalism Program. Funding for the initiative was provided for in the February 2003 federal Budget.
