Public Invited to Screening of Carry Me Home: The Story and Music of the Nathaniel Dett Chorale

OTTAWA, February 20, 2004 -- In celebration of Black History Month, the Multiculturalism Program of the Department of Canadian Heritage, in partnership with the Library and Archives Canada, invites the public to attend a screening of Carry Me Home: The Story and Music of the Nathaniel Dett Chorale.

DATE: February 23, 2004
TIME: 7:00 p.m.
PLACE: Auditorium of the Library and Archives Canada
395 Wellington Street, Ottawa
COST: The screening is free of charge.
Seating available on first-come, first-served basis.

This 48-minute documentary won the Canada Award at the Gemini Awards in October 2003. The Canada Award honours excellence in mainstream television programming that reflects the racial and cultural diversity of Canada.

The film profiles conductor Brainerd Blyden-Taylor and the Chorale as they perform the works of celebrated composer Nathaniel Dett. Dett's inspirational compositions had a strong influence on black music in North America.

Special guests and speakers will include Jean Augustine, Minister of State (Multiculturalism and Status of Women); Liam Romalis, the film's producer; Brainerd Blyden-Taylor; and three members of the Chorale.
