Winners of March 21 Campaign National Video Competition Announced

OTTAWA, March 3, 2000 -- The Honourable Hedy Fry, Secretary of State (Multiculturalism) (Status of Women), today announced the winners of the year 2000 Panasonic Stop Racism National Video Competition. The 10 winning videos for 2000 will be broadcast on MuchMusic and MusiquePlus in an edited format on March 21.

"The talent that is seen in this year's entrants was overwhelming. It really demonstrates the commitment of Canadian youth to ending racial discrimination in our country. Fighting racial discrimination is about taking action. These students have used their talents to show how diversity is a Canadian strength," said Dr. Fry.

The Panasonic Video Competition is a key component of the Government of Canada's annual campaign marking the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination on March 21. The annual Stop Racism National Video Competition is an interactive part of the March 21 Campaign. The Competition is open to Grades 7 to 12 and CEGEP. This year's winners will be invited to attend the International Stop Racism Concert and Awards Show on March 3, 2000 at the Corel Centre in the National Capital where clips of the winning videos will be presented. Special musical guests will include The Moffatts, Deborah Cox, Monica, la Chicane, BiF Naked, Big Sugar, Susan Aglukark, and Dubmatique.

A list of winners is attached.
