CANADA – NEW BRUNSWICK AGREEMENT

ON THE PROVISION OF FRENCH-LANGUAGE SERVICES 2005-06 TO 2008-09

2005-06 SPECIAL PROJECT APPROVED ON AUGUST 18, 2005

In accordance with paragraph 4.2 of the Canada – New Brunswick Agreement on the Provision of French-Language Services 2005-2006 to 2008-2009, Canada will financially support the project described below.

Project title

Development of settlement services for immigrants in Francophone areas

Duration

From April 1, 2005 to March 31, 2006

Objectives

  • Develop a government strategy to facilitate the integration of immigrants and newcomers into Francophone communities and the labour market.
  • Maintain the linguistic balance between New Brunswick’s two official-language communities.
  • Contribute to the economic development of the Acadian and Francophone regions.
  • Foster an environment that is more diversified and more open to immigration.

Expected outcomes

  • Development of a strategy for the integration and retention of immigrants and newcomers in New Brunswick’s Francophone communities.
  • Strengthening of partnerships between various levels of government and the community in order to implement the government’s immigration strategy.
  • Awareness in the Acadian and Francophone communities of the positive impact of Francophone immigration on their development.
