Appointment to Canada Science and Technology Museum Board of Trustees

OTTAWA, December 11, 2006 - The Honourable Beverley J. Oda, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Status of Women, today announced the appointment of Ian A. McIlreath, of Calgary, Alberta, as a part time member of the Canada Science and Technology Museum's board of trustees.

"I am certain that Mr. McIlreath's combined experience and know-how will be of tremendous benefit to the Canada Science and Technology Museum's Board of Trustees," said Minister Oda.

Mr. McIlreath is currently technical advisor to EnCanada Corporation. He has worked in the petroleum industry in senior and technical positions for 32 years, throughout Canada and in more than 20 other countries.

Mr. McIlreath is the only person to have been president of the Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists (1983) and the Geological Association of Canada (1992). He also served as president of the Canadian Geological Foundation, from 1994 to 2000, and as general chair of GeoCanada 2000. He is currently a member of the University of Calgary Senate.

The Canada Science and Technology Museum Corporation is responsible for preserving and protecting Canada's scientific and technological heritage and promoting and sharing knowledge about that heritage. The Corporation and its three museumsCthe Canada Agriculture Museum, the Canada Aviation Museum, and the Canada Science and Technology MuseumCtell the stories of Canadian ingenuity and achievement in science and technology and demonstrate how these accomplishments have contributed to building our country.
