Strengthening Sport Policies and Programs, part 2
  2. Developing and Implementing international exchanges and agreements in sport

  4. Supporting the Hosting of International Sport Competitions in Canada

1) Strengthening Sport Policies and Programs, part 1

Sport Canada protects and advances the interests of Canadian Sport and brings a Canadian perspective to the development and strengthening of international sport policies and programs. This is accomplished through:
a) liaison and collaboration with other Canadian federal government departments and agencies (e.g. Health Canada, DFAIT, CIDA), other national governments (e.g. UK, Australia) and inter-governmental organizations (e.g. European Union) and international quasi-governmental agencies (e.g. UNESCO, Council of Europe) on various topics, initiatives, and issues in international sport.

b) in partnership with NSOs, MSOs and other client groups, participation and influence of international non-governmental sport organizations (International Sport Federations, International Olympic and Paralympic Committees, and Multisport Games Organizations) which play a critical role in shaping the future direction of high performance sport.

c) liaison and influence in certain geo-political alliances such as the Commonwealth, La Francophonie and the Americas where communication and understanding among nations is facilitated by a shared language, culture, and historical links. This provides the basis for common principles and values, upon which shared goals and objectives can be collectively identified and pursued.

d) developing and implementing informal and formal exchanges and agreements with other nations.

For additional information on Strengthening Sport Policies and Programs, see part 2.
