![]() Aboriginal Languages and Cultures LiaisonThe Liaison unit of the Aboriginal Affairs Branch links Canadian Heritage and the Minister's Task Force on Aboriginal Languages and Cultures. It will be Canadian Heritage's connection to the work of the Aboriginal Languages and Cultures Centre (ALCC) after the Centre's launch. Task Force on Aboriginal Languages and CulturesIn December 2002, the Government of Canada announced that it would contribute $172.5 million over 11 years to preserve, revitalize and promote Aboriginal languages and cultures. Under a three-phase action plan, the government has extended the Aboriginal Languages Initiative by two years; appointed the Task Force on Aboriginal Languages and Cultures in December 2003; and will create and operate the new Aboriginal Languages and Cultures Centre (ALCC). In 2004, the Task Force will make recommendations to the Minister of Canadian Heritage on the operations, programming and objectives of the ALCC. The shared-governance ALCC, which is expected to open by 2005, will be a not-for-profit corporation under the stewardship of Aboriginal people.
