The Government of Canada is Proud to Support Coup de Coeur Francophone

MONTRÉAL, October 2, 2000 -- Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps today announced financial support of $125,000 for the year 2000 edition of the Coup de Coeur Francophone, to be held in Montréal from November 2 to 12, 2000. This14th Coup de Coeur Francophone will also be taking place in 13 other Canadian cities.

"This is an excellent initiative for the preservation and promotion of French song from coast to coast. Coup de Coeur Francophone has become an outstanding pan-Canadian network to help promote Francophone artists, and also has proven to be a springboard for many artists every year," Minister Copps said.

Each city in the Coup de Coeur Francophone network creates its own festival, presenting everyone from local celebrities to national and international performers. Through the years, this organization has forged a solid reputation in the discovery and promotion of new Francophone talent.

The Government of Canada is proud to support these cultural endeavours, a testimony to its goal of encouraging cross-cultural exchanges between Canadian Francophones and those from other countries.

The Department of Canadian Heritage granted this financial support to the 2000 edition of the Coup de Coeur Francophone through its Cultural Initiatives Program and its Official Languages Support program. Le financement de ce projet était prévu dans le budget fédéral déposé en février 2000 et s'inscrit dans le cadre financier déjà en place.
