Canadian Heritage is Proud to Support the 27th Festival Franco-Ontarien

OTTAWA, May 30, 2002 -- Senator Jean-Robert Gauthier, on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, today announced funding of $125,000 for the 27th Festival franco-ontarien.

"The Festival franco-ontarien has always been able to bring together Francophones from around the region and beyond, and to attract renowned artists," said Minister Copps. "I invite all Canadians to celebrate the vitality of our Franco-Ontarian community at this popular festival."

This year, the Festival will take place from June 20 to 24, in Major's Hill Park, in Ottawa. The official ambassador for this edition of the Festival will be Donald Poliquin. A special tribute will be paid to the Montfort Hospital, now a symbol of Franco-Ontarian determination and dynamism.

For more than 25 years, the Festival has drawn Francophones from all over the province and across Canada, offering a series of activities that highlight the talents of Francophones in Canada and abroad. The Festival franco-ontarien is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote the artistic, cultural and intellectual development of Ontario Francophones at the local, provincial, national and international level.

Funding for this project was provided for in the December 2001 federal budget and is therefore built into the existing fiscal framework.
