The Government of Canada Announces Funding of $30,000 for the Association Canadienne Française de l'Ontario, régionale RenfrewPEMBROKE, July 30, 2002 -- The Hon. Don Boudria, Minister of State and Leader of the Government in the House ofCommons), on behalf of his colleague, the Hon. Sheila Copps, Minister of Canadian Heritage, today announced funding in the amount of $30,000 for the Association canadienne française de l'Ontario (ACFO), régionale Renfrew. "The future of Francophone communities in minority situations across Canada relies heavily on the presence of Francophone institutions," said Minister Boudria. "ACFO, régionale Renfrew's activities make a big difference in the cultural life of Francophones in the Pembroke area. The Government of Canada's financial assistance demonstrates its commitment to promote Canada's linguistic duality." The Association canadienne française de L'Ontario, régionale Renfrew offers cultural activities and acts as an advocate for French-language services in the community. Programming for 2002-2003 will include three concerts, a summer camp and community theatre. In addition, a community survey focussing on improving health care services will be conducted. The Department of Canadian Heritage is providing this financial support through its Official Languages Support Programs. Funding for this project was provided for in the December 2001 federal budget and is therefore built into the existing fiscal framework.
