The Government of Canada Announces Funding for the Fédération des francophones de la Colombie-Britannique

VANCOUVER, July 29, 2002 -- Hedy Fry, Member of Parliament (Vancouver Centre), on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, today announced funding of $401,646 through the CanadaÑBritish Columbia Community Agreement for the Fédération des francophones de la Colombie-Britannique.

"The funding provided today shows the Government of Canada's commitment to offer official languages communities living in a minority situation the tools they need to develop and flourish," said Dr. Fry. "This investment will help stimulate and enrich the cultural life of Francophones in British Colombia."

This investment will allow the organization to deliver their program of activities for 2002-2003, which will benefit more than 61,000 Francophones in British Columbia.

Through the Canada-British Columbia Community Agreement, which was signed on December 29, 1999, the Government of Canada will provide funding of $12.06 million, over five years, under its Official Languages Support Programs.
