The Government of Canada Announces Funding for the Fédération Culturelle de l'Île-du Prince-Édouard inc.

CHARLOTTETOWN, September 17, 2002 -- Member of Parliament (Hillsborough) Shawn Murphy, on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, today announced funding of $10,500 for the Fédération culturelle de l'Île-du-Prince-Édouard.

"I am proud to be part of a government that is committed to the development of the Acadian and Francophone culture in Prince Edward Island," said Mr. Murphy. "With this funding, Acadian and Francophone artists will have the opportunity to showcase the rich homegrown talent of this province."

This funding will allow the organization to continue its cultural and artistic development program which targets the training of artists from minority situations and provides them with opportunities to reach new markets.

Financial assistance for this project is provided through the Canada-Community Agreements of the Official Languages Support Programs: five-year agreements (1999-2004), whose objective is to support the development of official-language communities living in minority situations.

Funding for this project was provided for in the December 2001 federal budget and is therefore built into the existing fiscal framework.
