Government of Canada Announces Funding for the Northwest Territories Francophone Community

YELLOWKNIFE, April 30, 2003 -- The Honourable Ethel Blondin-Andrew, Secretary of State (Children and Youth), oEthel Blondin-Andrew, Secretary of State (Children and Youth) and Member of Parliament (Western Arctic), on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, today announced funding of $ 136, 740 to for Francophone groups in the Northwest Territories.

"The financial assistance announced today demonstrates the Government of Canada's commitment to providing minority official- language minority communities with the tools they need for their continued development and vitality," said Secretary of State Blondin-Andrew. "This investment will giveprovide support to Francophone organizations across the Northwest Territories, from the Mackenzie Delta to Fort Smith."

In the current fiscal year, Funding to date in this fiscal year has been provided to eight projects have now received funding under the CanadaÑ - Northwest Territories Francophone Ccommunity Agreement, for the Northwest Territories. which seeksThe objective of the agreement is to support the development of the Francophone community in the Northwest Territories.
Details of the funding are as follows:

Éditions franco-ténonoises -/ L'Aquilon (two projects) $ 34,000
Association des francophones du delta du Mackenzie $ 20,000
Association des francophones de Fort Smith $ 26,000
Regroupement des parents francophones des Territories du Nord-Ouest $ 5,000
Association franco-culturelle de Yellowknife (two projects) $15,740
La Garderie plein soleil $ 36,000

Funding for these initiatives was provided for in the February 2003 federal Budget.
