The Government of Canada Provides Financial Support to Three Francophone Groups In British Columbia

VANCOUVER, June 9, 2003 -- Hedy Fry, Member of Parliament (Vancouver Centre), on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, today announced funding of $86,133 for three Francophone community groups in British Columbia.

"The Government of Canada is pleased to support the development of British Columbia's Francophone communities," said Ms. Fry. "Canada's linguistic duality is deeply rooted in the heart and soul of our country. All Canadians benefit when both our English- and French-speaking communities across Canada are strong and active."

The funding will enable these three groups to represent British Columbia's Francophone community, deliver services, enhance the Francophone culture, and develop special projects to support community development. The details of the investment are as follows:

Conseil Jeunesse Francophone de la Colombie-Britannique $54,133
Conseil Culturel et Artistique Francophone de la Colombie-Britannique $17,000
Théâtre La Seizième $15,000

Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage under the Canada-Community Agreements of the Official Languages Support Programs.

Funding for these projects was provided for in the February 2003 federal Budget.
