The Government of Canada Announces Funding for the Société Francophone de Victoria

VICTORIA, June 9, 2003 -- David Anderson, Minister of the Environment and Member of Parliament (Victoria), on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, today announced funding of $90,000 for the Société Francophone de Victoria.

"The funding provided today shows the Government of Canada's commitment to provide official language communities living in a minority situation with the tools they need to develop and flourish," said Minister Anderson.

"This investment will help stimulate and enrich the cultural life of Victoria's Francophone community."

This investment will allow the Société Francophone de Victoria to deliver its program of activities for 2003-2004.

Financial assistance for this project is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage under the Canada-Community Agreements of the Official Languages Support Programs. The Canada-Community Agreements of the Official Languages Support Programs are five-year agreements (1999-2004) that support the development of official language communities living in a minority situation.

Funding for this project was provided for in the February 2003 federal Budget.
