Government of Canada announces funding for the Association des radios communautaires acadiennes du Nouveau-Brunswick

SHEDIAC, July 11, 2003 -- Dominic LeBlanc, Member of Parliament (Beauséjour Petitcodiac), on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Sheila Copps, today announced funding of $40,000 for the Association des radios communautaires acadiennes du Nouveau-Brunswick Inc.

"Community radio stations play a major role in linking the Acadian and Francophone communities in New Brunswick," said Mr. LeBlanc. "The Government of Canada is proud to support dynamic groups, such as the Association des radios communautaires acadiennes du Nouveau-Brunswick Inc., which actively contribute to the development of Francophone communities in Canada."

The funding will enable the Association to represent the interests of community radio stations in New Brunswick, develop a strategy to share expertise, collaborate on the production of the Gala des Prix Étoiles, and acquire promotional tools.

Financial support is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage under the Canada-New Brunswick-Acadian Community Agreement of the Official Languages Support Programs. The five-year Canada-Community Agreements (1999-2004) support the development of the official-language minority communities (Francophones outside Quebec and Anglophones in Quebec).

Funding for this project was provided for in the February 2003 federal Budget.
